J. R. Preston

J. R. Preston, agent for the Western Assurance Company, of Toronto, Can., Wescott Block, No. 715 Main street, Richmond, Ind., is a native of Union County, Ind. He was reared on a farm, but received a collegiate education, graduating from Knox College, Galesburg, Ill., in 1852. From 1855 till 1864 he was local agent for several insurance companies, and in the latter year took the general agency of the Continental Company, of New York, having the charge of the State of Indiana and nearly all of Illinois. In 1878 he relinquished the agency of the Continental and became connected with the Western Assurance Company of Toronto, Canada. This company has a capital of $2,000,000. Since his connection with these companies Mr. Preston has paid out over $1,000,000 in losses. He has 200 local agents under his supervision and the business is steadily increasing.
